Clinical Effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Pain Relief

Abstract
|
|
|
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been well recognized for its effectiveness in pain relief. TENS, a sensory stimulator, has been tried for 31 patients in our Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Catholic Medical College.
The results were obtained as follows:
1. Mean days of the treatment were 10.8 days, and the mean numbers of treatment were 8.1 times and the mean duration was 19 minutes and 20 seconds.
2. Mean value of the time pain present per day before and after treatment were 17 hours and 24 minutes, and 9 hours and 54 minutes respectively.
3. Average in severity of pain before treatment was distressing, and after TENS is became mild.
4. After TENS treatment, average of physical activity in reltion to what is physically possible became slightly restricted, which was moderately to severely restricted before TENS.
5. After treatment, the effects of the pain.upon one´s personality became normal or no effect to slightly upset or irritable, which was moderately upset or unhappy, anxious, uncooperative, and dull before TENS.
